A stark reminder of how fragile our world is.

You first brought Natalie’s story to my attention in your book “Jumping Over Shadows”. As I recall, you, Harry, and children returned with Natalie in her later years to that place. One can’t imagine what she felt at that time. It should only have been triumph. Still catches my breath thinking about it.

Thank you, Michael. You remember correctly: We visited Briosne with Natalie in 2009 with our kids, and that visit is recounted in Jumping Over Shadows. During that visit she mainly relived her childhood memories, such as where the outhouse had been and that she'd been afraid to go there at night because of the rats. Or how her brothers frightened her and her sister with stories about the dead rising from their graves in the little town cemetery.
